Learning To Fly

On the other side of fear there's freedom.

You too can learn to climb, invert, wrap, and dance in the air.

Lyn (aka Caitlyn Kilgore) loves teaching all ages and skill levels.  She has been teaching aerial arts in the San Francisco Bay Area of California since 2013.  Caitlyn builds curricula that are challenging, useful, and fun while supporting her students in finding success wherever they are in their aerial journey.

Caitlyn is available for group and private lessons for adults and children at the Athletic Playground and Kinetic Arts Center where you can also find her teaching a variety of weekly group classes for adults and children - check their websites for schedule information.

Available Workshops:

Roll Ups: Defying Gravity:

Come learn the fundamentals of slowing your roll, and even rolling up in magical, gravity defying style.  We will be practicing on rope and tissue, using alternating core engagements to resist the Earth's pull.  Concepts covered include: c-shapes, hipkey roll-ups, roll-ups on rope with wraps, slowing down star drop and other lateral rolling drops, rotating from back balance to front balance, and if time permits roll-ups on rope without wraps.  (check out @bootscats_bootscats_ on instagram for video examples). Must be comfortable with hipkeys in the air, double star drop, and have experience with wheel downs.  Show gravity it's not the boss of you!!  *Spinal articulation is important for these moves, please check-in with instructor if you have any back injuries.*

All Ways S-Wrap (mixed apparatus rope and/or tissue):

Tired of the same old way to get into this versatile wrap that leads to a wheel down or helicopter?  Wondering what makes it so versatile?  This workshop will show you several ways of entering s-wrap, ranging from the stripped down basics to the beat-based beautiful.  Play with multiple tricks and drops from this wrap as well.  In this workshop we can also focus on learning and refining wheel-downs (aka helicopters or windmills) through strength training, body awareness exercises, and improved technique.  Curious about another wrap that looks and acts like this one?  With enough time, we can break down the difference between s-wrap and z-wrap/u-lock, how to get in and get out, and what do with them.  This workshop is suitable for intermediate to advanced students.

Wrapology (mixed apparatus rope and/or tissue):

By finding links between different wraps, we will uncover a whole new world of aerial possibilities.  Take your aerial sequencing and understanding to the next level.  In this workshop we will discuss the fundamentals of how wraps are related, helping us find interesting and unique transitions, and eventually create our own wraps, tricks, and transitions.  While we focus on transitions between a few tricks, the real goal is to understand how any trick can lead to any number of others.  Specific tricks and sequences will be provided as a jumping off point with the goal of finding new connections and possibilities for creation.  Students must be comfortable inverting, hipkeying (getting into hipkey or hiplock), and making footlocks in the air.

Beats Nasty (rope and/or tissue):

In this workshop we will break down the use of momentum on a vertical apparatus.  Progressions will start from the most basic beat and build to more complicated momentum-based moves.  We will also explore how to incorporate more dynamic movement into wraps and how to use more complex beats for tricks.  Students should be comfortable inverting in the air and hanging with straight arms.  Comfort with drops recommended.

Infinite Possibilities and Limitless Sequencing:

Explore new pathways between favorite tricks to find infinite options for sequencing and choreography. This workshop focuses on the fundamental relationships between various wraps and poses.  While we focus on transitions between a few tricks, the real goal is to understand how any trick can lead to any number of others.  Specific tricks and sequences will be provided as a jumping off point. Students will have time to physically navigate concepts and explore new possibilities of their own creation, giving them the ability to string together their favorite moves in new, efficient, and beautiful ways.  This workshop is suitable for advanced beginners to advanced aerialists.

Breaking the Rules, Wraps From Forbidden Places:

Ever wonder what happens when you straddle with the fabric between your legs? Find out where this faux pas goes and how much fun it can be! We'll explore a variety of wraps from tail between our legs.  High level of silks proficiency expected - we're going to these places intentionally, so you should already be confident doing things "the right way" intentionally.  This workshop is suitable for advanced intermediate and advanced aerialists.

Wheel Downs Technique and Variations:

Get the tools you need to make your wheel down as smooth and seamless as possible.  We will build strength, hone body awareness, and practice techniques that will improve your wheel down dramatically.  This workshop also includes fun variations on the wheel down theme that play with different body positions as you roll down the tissue or rope. We might even have time for no-hands wheel downs...  This workshop suitable for intermediate to advanced students.

Trapeze and Tissue for Two:

This multi-day workshop can range from the basics of what it feels like to work with a partner on a shared apparatus all the way through to dynamic ticks and transitions. This workshop can also be cut down to a single day of basics or intermediate tricks depending on skill level and experience of participants.  This workshop is suitable for intermediate to advanced students.
